the dome is late Baroque, while the oldest part is the apse, with splendid Arab-Norman decorations.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The interior, rebuilt in the 19th century in Neoclassical style to a design by Ferdinando Fuga, has a Latin cross plan with three naves<\/strong>. Today the painting is housed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/madrid\/cosa-vedere-museo-prado-madrid\"><strong>Prado Museum in Madrid<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After the addition of a moat and further walls, the complex began its centuries-long decline: it was used as a hospice for the poor, a warehouse, a public theatre and eventually became a rubbish dump.<\/p>\n<p>Floods, earthquakes and the bombings of the Second World War did the rest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Over the last 30 years, a slow restoration process has begun, with the altar finally covered again and a copy of Raphael\u2019s work installed<\/strong>.
