Inspired by a fervent mystical spirit, the <strong>small community of lay sisters led a life of prayer and work<\/strong>, asceticism and charitable activity.<\/p>\n<p>One of the houses has been transformed into a museum to give visitors an idea of the beguines\u2019 way of life. In 1584, a fire destroyed the small 13th-century church.
