A little-known tourist destination until just a few years ago, <strong>with the opening of a low-cost Ryanair route it has become a popular weekend escape.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And yet just a few steps into the <strong>Old Town<\/strong> are enough to realise that a few hours are not sufficient to enjoy <strong>Wroc\u0142aw\u2019s architectural harmony and relaxed atmosphere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the evening, that atmosphere becomes especially romantic and evocative, thanks to the work of <strong>a lamplighter who lights 103 gas lamps<\/strong>, one by one, before putting them out again at dawn.<\/p>\n<p>Wroc\u0142aw is small and easy to explore on foot, partly because its most important sights are concentrated within a short distance of one another: <strong>Market Square, the Town Hall<\/strong> and the <strong>Cathedral<\/strong>. google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Open%20Sans%3A300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C800%2C800italic|font_style:600%20bold%20regular%3A600%3Anormal&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1441169508036{background-position: 0 0 !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span class=\"dropcap\" style=\"background-color: #c60c0c;\">2<\/span><\/p>\n<p>An endless sequence of <strong>red roofs, brick houses and colourful fa\u00e7ades<\/strong> makes Wroc\u0142aw\u2019s historic centre a small architectural jewel.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2577\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2577\" style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2577\" src=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/citta-vecchia-wroclaw-breslavia.jpg\" alt=\"Wroc\u0142aw Old Town\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/citta-vecchia-wroclaw-breslavia.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/citta-vecchia-wroclaw-breslavia-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2577\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wroc\u0142aw Old Town<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Looking at it closely, it is hard to believe that it was almost <strong>entirely destroyed by the bombings of the Second World War<\/strong> and then patiently reconstructed by its inhabitants with monastic dedication.<\/p>\n<p>The heart of the Old Town is the Rynek, the Market Square (see point 1), a place of passage and encounter for locals and visitors alike.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Gothic spires of the <strong>Town Hall<\/strong> (see point 3) are a reassuring point of reference for first-time visitors, as is the bell tower of the <strong>Cathedral of St John the Baptist<\/strong> (see point 6), the city\u2019s most important religious monument.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Town also has less touristy and more hidden corners, such as the romantic <strong>Tumski Bridge<\/strong>, also known as the <strong>Bridge of Love<\/strong>, both for its charming view over the River <em>Oder<\/em> and for the old-world atmosphere created by the still-functioning gas lamps.<\/p>\n<p>Do not be surprised: the fashion for padlocks on bridges has reached Wroc\u0142aw too. The best place from which to admire the Old Town is the bell tower of the <strong>Church of St Elizabeth<\/strong>, which stands on one corner of Market Square. It was then that the <strong>fa\u00e7ade and civic tower<\/strong> were built and the interior halls were arranged.<\/p>\n<p>After various vicissitudes linked to wars and changes in the city\u2019s \u201cnationality\u201d, today the Town Hall houses the <em>Muzeum Miejskie Wroc\u0142awia<\/em>, the \u201cMuseum of the City of Wroc\u0142aw\u201d, and is used mainly for cultural events.<\/p>\n<h3>Opening hours and ticket prices for the Town Hall<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Opening hours<\/strong>: Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am\u20135 pm.<br \/>\n<strong>Ticket price<\/strong>: full price 15 PLN, students and pensioners 10 PLN. Today the Centennial Hall mainly hosts exhibitions, conferences and events.
