Florence, which until then had been a wealthy but relatively quiet city, became a new model for the \u201c<em>New Man<\/em>\u201d emerging from the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Within just a few kilometres, thanks to enlightened rulers and brilliant artists, <strong>churches, palaces, museums and bridges<\/strong> began to rise.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In Florence\u2019s workshops, works were painted that today enrich museums all over the world and would change the history of art forever.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>There are so many things to visit in Florence that 10 were not enough, so we have added <strong>another 10 things to see in Florence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>All these masterpieces \u2014 in stone, canvas and marble \u2014 are perfectly preserved and there for everyone to see. google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Open%20Sans%3A300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C800%2C800italic|font_style:600%20bold%20regular%3A600%3Anormal&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1675336892654{background-position: 0 0 !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span class=\"dropcap\" style=\"background-color: #c60c0c;\">2<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/firenze\/ponte-vecchio-firenze\"><strong>most beautiful bridge<\/strong><\/a> in Florence, and one of the most photographed in the world, has not always been such a <em>chic<\/em> place.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Although today it is the goldsmiths\u2019 shops that attract streams of visitors, until 1565 <strong>the bridge was dominated by greengrocers\u2019 and butchers\u2019 shops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>When the Vasari Corridor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/firenze\/galleria-uffizi-firenze\"><strong>Uffizi<\/strong><\/a>, which passes above Ponte Vecchio, was built, the butchers and greengrocers were moved out in favour of <strong>goldsmiths and artisans, considered more suited to the beauty of the place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2919\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2919\" style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2919\" src=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ponte-vecchio-firenze.jpg\" alt=\"Ponte Vecchio in Florence\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ponte-vecchio-firenze.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/ponte-vecchio-firenze-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2919\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ponte Vecchio in Florence<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since then, gold has become the defining feature of Ponte Vecchio, as the statue of Benvenuto Cellini, Florence\u2019s greatest goldsmith, reminds us.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>The Vasari Corridor<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In 1565, Giorgio Vasari built the Vasari Corridor for Cosimo I de\u2019 Medici, linking Palazzo Vecchio with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/firenze\/palazzo-pitti-firenze\"><strong>Palazzo Pitti<\/strong><\/a>, then the private residence of the Medici family.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>The corridor<\/strong>, around one kilometre long, starts from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10cose.it\/firenze\/palazzo-vecchio-firenze\"><strong>Palazzo Vecchio<\/strong><\/a>, passes through the Uffizi Gallery, then above the shops of Ponte Vecchio, before continuing on to Palazzo Pitti.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Along this route, there is certainly no shortage of things to do, see and buy. It is said that <strong>Hitler<\/strong> ordered Ponte Vecchio to be spared during the bombings of the Second World War.
